Research shows that in 2005 nearly a quarter of NSW households (27.3%) do not have a smoke alarm installed.

Smoke alarms are an important and effective early warning device that can alert you to fire allowing you time to escape.

To help save lives, Since May 1 2006, new legislation came into effect ‘Building Legislation Amendment (Smoke Alarms) Act 2005 requiring smoke alarms to be installed in existing buildings in which people sleep. Smoke alarms are already mandatory for all new buildings.
